Unpacking 2010 white tablet9/7/2023 ![]() The sink lies on the right side with a dishrack next to it. Many items in the kitchen are already put away. There are 3 boxes to unpack in this room. The carpet is dark and the walls are cream. Different types of Entomology Taxidermy are on the walls and shelves. In an underside shelf there are some board games. To the right of the mannequin is an end table with more sewing materials on it. The mannequin stands in front of the window on the rightmost wall. Thread and sewing materials lay under an outfitted mannequin. ![]() The larger bookshelf has 2 empty shelves and 3 taken up by the roommates items. A small bookshelf with 2 shelves has one already filled with plant care materials and another empty. To the right of the TV Stand are two bookshelves. ![]() To the left of the TV stand is some biking gear on the ground and a movie boxset. There is an old flat screen TV on the stand. A TV stand with 4 shelves and a GameStation in the middle shelf. A couch is pushed towards the back with a hot water bottle on the leftmost cushion. There are some coasters in the corner and coffee table books in a small undershelf. In the middle of the room is a coffee table with an open novel and a scribbled in ringed notebook. There are 8 boxes to unpack in this room. The floors are a dark carpet and the walls are a plain cream color. There is room under the bed to place things. The left side has three shelves, two drawers, and an overhang. The closet's right side had a hanger rack. There is a lower shelf with a small drawer above it. There is a desk with three shelves on top. In the bedroom there is a window on the right wall. Unpacking's story weaves a beautiful tale of hope, hurt, and healing as players follow the main character through the major changes of her life, and the game uses subtle storytelling through gameplay to convey what it truly means to make a home.The third place you unpack is the the shared house of the player character and her 2 roommates. In the final shot of the indie game, the happy couple can be seen sitting in the backyard together with their baby, and the main character plays the ukulele for her family as the sun sets. Their belongings have mingled in both sets of boxes, and players use the items that have been carried from move to move to create one final home for the couple to live many happy years in. There’s plenty of room for all of their plants, magnets, and chicken figurines, and there’s even a backyard big enough for them to consider getting a pet. ![]() At this point in Unpacking's storyline, the main character is a professional artist and has published a children’s book featuring the pig and duck designs she’s been working on for the past few years. They’re expecting a baby and have a nursery to unpack this time around, and all the sentimental items that have appeared in each move now settle in to turn this house into a home that both the main character and her partner can share together. In the final chapter of Unpacking's story, the main character and her partner have bought a house and are beginning to build a family together. While the childhood bedroom feels smaller to her than it did before, she has a space of her own again where she can get back on her feet and begin to heal after the breakup. ![]() She’s gotten a bit more serious with the ukulele as well, and has bought a book to learn from since the last level of Unpacking. There’s a sewing machine on her desk as her parents had been using her room while she was away, but players can rearrange the space to make room for all of her things. Most of her old plushies are still in the room, and her poster can be found and hung up as well, creating a poignant feeling of nostalgia and comfort in the midst of the separation. If players do hang it on the corkboard, she’ll put the pin through his face. It seems to have been a painful breakup as a photo of them as a couple can be found, but unlike the rest of the photos that go on the corkboard, this one must be placed away in the cabinet where she doesn’t have to see it. After breaking up with her boyfriend and moving out of his apartment in 2012, the main character of Unpacking returns to her childhood home to stay with her parents for a while. ![]()
